I'm watching a speaker present and he suddenly stops and just turns sideways to the audience. Takes a long pause. And I'm thinking, wow, this guy has got it. He's got confidence in himself. He can stand up in front of everybody, and not say anything?
I don't really remember anything else about that speech, but I sure remember that. And I know that for me, prior to getting training, the thought of stopping and not saying anything, was terrifying.
And it always seemed to happen when I didn't want it to. When I went… blank.
Pausing and breathing is probably the most powerful confidence building thing. Both as the way you're perceived, audaciously confident and the way it feels inside.
